Nestled on the banks of the Macquarie River, Ross was settled in 1812 and is one of Australia's most original convict built stone villages. Many of the original sandstone churches and other buildings in the village have been proudly restored and preserved for future generations. Ross showcases a National Icon, the third oldest bridge in Australia built in 1836 by convict stonemasons with it's unique sculptures. A must see is the remains of The Female Factory Site which housed female convicts.

There are gift and antique shops to delight, plenty of eateries to tempt the tastebuds or just stroll down the elm lined streets and riverbank in this English style village and soak up the romance.

Ross it is also a comfortable drive to Launceston, Hobart, the highlands/lakes area and the East Coast, making it the perfect base for sightseeing much of Tasmania.
